Thanks Teach

by Guyan Wilks

Thank you for blessing us with your presence
For showing your legacy and presenting your essence
We know sometimes our minds are dim
That we hardly focus on work, but always on sin
Some how you've taught us to be bright and bold
And that the knowledge we gain can never be sold
So we cry tears, for we know when we fail
We bring shame upon you and the lessons you hail but surely you know we feel your pain
That we appreciate all the hells you sustain
And if others won't admit this to you
They are probably just afraid, so keep doing what you do
This turmoil that we teens call school
Grants the wishes of the would be fools
But it is your guidance and care and your sweat and tears
That will grant us the right to suceed
So yes you are still in great demand and need
And if I never said this from the start
Then let this poem begin to impart
My thank you
Thank you for your patience and time
Thank you for brightening our minds
Thank you for putting up with us from day to day
Thank you for all the wise things you say
Thank you for failing me when you must and can
For by failing me you teach me to be a better man
Thank you teach, you inspire me every year
Thats how I know you really care
Thank you
Thank you
Thank you

thank you, teacher

like a craftsman
who labours lovingly
over a half-completed artefact
you laboured just as lovingly
over students who refused to wake up
students who were not so bright
students who were just a little bit too slow
students who made you cry.
you never gave up on me.

like a gardener,
who watered the small,
weak seedling
day after day without fail
till it grew into a tall
majestic tree
blooming with flowers
fruit and life.
you cared for me.

i was like a ship
lost at sea on a dark
stormy light, sailing precariously
on the choppiest waters
when you appeared,
a tall lighthouse
shining ever so brightly
in the dark of the night
showing me how to get into
the calmer seas.
you helped me.

like a person
who handles diamonds
you polished me until
i sparkled so brightly
glimmering, glistening from
each and every angle.
you made me shine
you made me who i am today.

it's little things that matter most
or so they say.
you know what, its the little things
that you've done
that often are unnoticed to the common eye
that have made a difference in so many lives
when i think back on yesteryear
i remember so many of you
who have brightened my day
or pushed me onwards
and i thank you all for that
belief that i can make it in the end.
they say that the teaching profession is one
of the noblest ones in the world
and i couldn't do less
than agree with that.
thank you all teachers!
